White haze on waterline tile

Hiya!

My waterline tile has a dull film on it lately. It won't show up on pictures because it's not exactly white, it's just a dull film on the surface of the glass tiles. I've read through the threads that talk about calcium scale and it looks like there isn't much to do about it aside from keeping the pH relatively low and trying to control the CH. My CH is 400 and guessing from the constant battles with white haze on everything in my house that gets hit with water (tubs, sinks, etc), I don't think draining and refilling is going to get me anything much softer. If I aim for 7.2-7.5 range for pH, should this correct itself? Is there anything I can buy to help clean this off?

Also, pH drift is a big pain in the butt. Our water is alkaline here and I'm constantly fighting it. Aside from turning off the fountains (which I've done) there isn't much to do but keep adding acid, is there?

Manage CSI -- you can handle CH up to around 1000 ppm then it becomes difficult.

You will always have to add acid. More often the better if you are managing CSI with high CH.

You will have to drain eventually when your CH gets so high you cannot manage it.

As for the existing haze, a dilute muriatic acid should take it off. Use appropriate PPE.

Take care.

CSI! What?! I guess I never scrolled that far down in Pool Math!

I plugged in my numbers and got 0.06 which looks to be a good number. I'll try the diluted acid. What sort of protection do you use when you work with that as a cleaning agent?

I use eye protection. You can use gloves too. Dilute about 4 water to 1 acid. Still will sting your skin if you leave it on very long.

You need to calculate CSI with our highest pH, TA, and CH that occurs. And to keep the haze away, it is best to keep it at or below 0.

Good luck.
