Doing an polaris pressure side pump install that has the pool port already plumbed to the pad but was never used. Question: On the suction side of the polaris pump I mostly see they come from a tee after the heater before the pipe ducks into the ground but, can I tee off after the filter before the heater on this setup (heater is on wrong side of the pad) or will it cause some problem with the heater flow. This is a non automation setup and for now has a single speed 1.5hp pump. In the near future a vsp comes into play but that doesn't help changing the rpm because nobody will up the rpm in favor of the robot.

What size heater? What is the minimum GPM of the heater?

The problem with the cleaner pickoff being before the heater is you can get the flow to the heater less then its minimum flow.

With the pickoff after the heater the heater gets the full pump flow, whatever it is, and then the cleaner takes what it needs and the rest goes to the returns.

9 times out of 10 the pump is probably oversized enough that the heater gets enough flow. But you never know when it won't.
