When to replace liner & refill/open above ground pool

Hi all! We are replacing our liner this season and im curious as to when the best time to start that process would be.

I have the new liner and a sump pump to drain. My dad says that when we replace and refill we will have to open the pool immediately.

I was going to go ahead and do this, but he says it is too early to open.

We are in Northern Kentucky, temperatures are holding steady around 65, with some days fluctuating give or take 10 degrees.

So basically, is it too soon? Should we wait, or is it safe to go ahead and open after replacing?

Re: When to replace liner & refill/open above ground pool

The sooner you get it done, the better your chances of having a nice water temp to go swimming once the weather turns nice!
You DO want to let your liner set out OPEN in 70+ temperatures, and FULL sun for a bit so you can stretch it into place properly, and get the wrinkles out when putting it into the pool though. (A couple of hours should be fine).
Pick a nice 70+ day, and put it place in the pool... let it get the heat, and sun for an hour or 2. Then start working it... get as many wrinkles out as you can.... put a BIT of water into the bottom... work out the wrinkles... continue a bit at a time working out the wrinkles as you go.
You will be fine.
There are many threads here of people replacing their liners. Do a search for them, and follow the advice given.
I have replaced my Intex liner (Put a replacement liner inside of it), and it is the best thing I have done for my pool next to joining THIS site!
Can NOT thank you guys enough!!

If you click on my username and look for threads started, you will find a thread on a DIY liner change. Definitely let the liner warm up as suggested by RonsPlc.

Early April is a very good time to open a pool. You won't swim but the water is cool and it prevents algae from growing. Most of us here at TFP open early and close late to keep algae from taking a foot hold. Some of our members dont even close. I do because im in Pa. I have had a lot of people tell me i open to early. They open late to a mess when every year, I open early to crystal clear water, minus this year.
