When do I add chlorine stabilizer?

I have been running the filter non-stop for 4 days now. I am seeing a lot of progress. Every 4 hours, I am out of the SLAM range and needed to backwash for the first 2 days. Today was a sunny clear day and I was away from home for 7 hours. I came home to low FC levels. I have not needed to backwash my pool for the last 24 hours. My filter PSI is currently at 12. I just purchased a dry Clorox Stabilizer. Should I wait until the pool is all clear or am I safe? If I'm safe, should I backwash before adding?

I have the test kit and I tested the CYA levels twice thinking the first time was incorrect. I can pour the entire bottle into the tube and will still see the black dot clearly. Does the r-0013 go bad? I haven’t used it in a year

You have 0 (or much less than 30 ppm) of CYA. Add 20 ppm CYA worth of stabilizer. Assume you have 30 ppm CYA in water for SLAM purposes. Test CYA 24 hours after all is dissolved from sock. Add more if necessary. Target at least 30 ppm. 40 ppm is OK.

R0013 is very stable. Unless it has been frozen.

Added 2 cups of stabilizer 2 days ago. I had to order more r-0013. It’s now in and I just tested the pool. I am at 20 cya level although I can see the dot somewhat. Should I add more to get to the 30-40 suggested SLAM range?

Here are my numbers. I usually work from home but had to be in the office today. I came home to below SLAM range. I added 51oz of 10% chlorine, bushed, and vacuumed. I had to backwash afterwards. My CC has dropped which is promising

I wasn’t sure if this should be a new thead or not. I’m at starting to see a white milky film and a few blob pieces floating on top. Is it dead algae? I am only using 10% pool chlorine. I am still SLAMing with some progress. Filter had been running for 7 days straight

The big white circle to the bottom left is my phone flash. The other is the milky stuff

Looks like pollen/dogwood to me. I would try skimming it off the top and feel it let us know what it feels like.

What's the affects of over chlorinating your pool? A few times overnight my FC dropped out of the SLAM zone averaging 8 FC drops. Now I want to put my FC at 20 so when I wake at the very least FC is 12

Also, I'm seeing slow progress. It can be discouraging but I know this system works.

Follow the process. Test, add enough to get to target, wait, test add enough to get to target. Don't go above target on purpose.
