Anyone know what this is called?

Our pool builder initially told us to put chlorine tabs in here, but they never seemed to dissolve completely and the water in there smelled bad...

I cleaned out the chlorine tabs, as I’m transitioning to TFP methods. Just wondering what this “part” is called and what function it serves... thanks!

That's an auto-fill. The water level changes with the water level of the pool. If that float drops, it opens a water valve that directs water into the pool. It looks like a system made by Stetson.

That's your autofill pot. It adds water to the pool as the level gets lower. Works like a toilet bowl float valve.

Your PB is wrong! You should NEVER put chlorine tablets in there.

Figured as much...the tabs weren’t ever dissolving and making a mess in there.

Gonna stick with liquid chlorine anyways moving forward...
