Hello guys,

It’s been just about a week since I had my gunite shell shot. I think I’m ready to begin tiling. I will be doing this myself (as a homeowner) so any additional tips would be welcomed.

What is the appropriate product to apply for waterproofing before my thin set?

I’m using ceramic tile. In all of the tutorial videos I have not seen such a complex system to install. Is that only for glass? I was planning on the water proof/ thinset/ tile/ grout/ seal.

Additionally, on your drawing I don’t see the 1/2” mortar joint for the coping. Will I just be filling in the 1/2” joint from coping to tile with grout? Thanks

That is what the Laticrete process illustrates...

Yes.

You know where your expansion joint will be for your coping to deck interface?

As a H.O. I would do the coping first. Get a rental of a good laser level that self levels and shoot a line at low light and permanent mark it a few inches below planned coping height. Figure out what spacing you need for tile and make a spacer block and reference that height as you install your coping. It will be all level and then you can install the tile easily and not need to worry about leveling it.

Redgard claims to be suitable for use in pools and under submerged tile. I was looking at it for a different application, as an underlayment in a pool house but saw where it is recommended (by the mfg) for pool use.
