What type of chlorine granules to use? Cal Hypo or what?

Hi everyone. I hope your summers are going great. I have been using Chlor Brite from Leslies and my CYA level is always too high. I finally bothered to do some research and found out that it contains CYA so my levels are always going to be jacked up and I have to add chlorine far too often. I have been going through the process of draining and have it under control now, but I want to make sure I get the proper type of chlorine moving forward.

I see that Cal Hypo does not contain CYA and Leslies has it at a high 73% concentrate. They also carry the Blackout Trichlor product with an even higher concentration level but I would prefer to avoid any issues with stains as I just got it resurfaced with pebbletec last year. I understand Trichlor can make ph levels go crazy as well, so I thought I would get with the experts here at TFP for some advice.

Any recs on which would be a better option to keep CYA down and overall minimize the pain in the butt level of pool maintenance? Your insights are greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone, have a great week.

Welcome to tfp 👋
Trichlor also contains cya.
Cal hypo contains calcium- too much calcium leads to scale.
We suggest using liquid chlorine or a salt water chlorine generator for your daily chlorination needs.
