Hey all, I'm back for more guidance - you all never let me down! Our sand filter is leaking (spraying water) at the side seam and needs to be replaced. It will be roughly 3 days before we can get a new filter plus a few more to get it installed due to work and travel commitments. We are currently in a heat wave with daily temps hitting 101F-107F. We can keep the pool covered (electric pool cover) and we have the pool water on re-circulate to keep it moving but no way to filter it. Should I raise the FC to SLAM levels to prevent a swampy mess? What are your suggestions to manage the situation until we can get the new filter installed?
Our current filter is a Hayward s244t2 - guessing it's original so would be 12yrs old. I read in several threads you don't want filter pressures to be above 20 and preferably at around 15psi. Ours runs normally (with clean sand etc) in the 15-20psi range depending on the pump speed. Do we need to upgrade to a larger filter, maybe a 26"? I don't want to spend any more $$ than we have to but I don't want to be the reason the filter housing/components are not lasting.
Lastly, we are planning to replace the sand filter with the same type and brand. We're relatively new (3yrs) pool owners and are comfortable with the sand filters and maintenance. Ours seems to do a good job, our water is clear and until now have no issues with CC - I will say, I've never been able to get "sparkly" clear water, it's my greatest frustration. Maybe because we're on well water? I've tried using Zeo fiber. It does help. A couple days ago I noticed Bob, the pool robot, was picking up fine, white stuff in his filter - less than 1/2 tsp each time he runs. It's got to be the zeo fiber coming from the sand filter. Now I'm wondering if the fiber is a mistake and shouldn't be used when the new filter is installed. Thoughts?
