First to start off, I am in no danger at all.
I am in an area where there are wildfires happening all around. Our yards, cars and pools are covered in ash. I'm currently without a solar cover because the Intex ones I used to buy on Amazon for $35 or less are now up to $95 and the one that we got at the beginning of the season is already so brittle that when you go to pull it, your finger pokes straight through and it was shedding plastic in the pool... but that is another forum topic I guess. (Unless someone knows where I can get a solar cover for a reasonable price.)

Back to the topic, since I can't throw on a cover right now, is it best to run the filter constantly to help keep the ash out of the water? I do have a skimmer sock on. Or could this be worse for the DE filter? I'm not sure if it will gum everything up, or if all I am looking at would be to replace the media in a few days.

Most of the ash should be caught by your skimmer sock. What gets through the DE will capture. Chemically it will not bother the pool much. pH may be impacted a little.

Thanks. I'll keep the filter running then and check the socks every few hours or so.
