What is this plug?

Hello,

We recently bought a home with a pool. We are newbies, so we don’t know much about pools. We noticed a plug of some sort right next to the jet and skimmer that you can take out but we weren’t sure if it should come out or not. Anyone have any idea what this is and what it’s supposed to do?

Just a wild guess. Maybe it's an optional water port to run a hose to the top of the slide. Try running the pump with the plug out? Or look for a valve someplace. No other ideas at the moment.

Another wild guess...

Does it's female fixture lead anywhere, or bottom out?

If the latter, it might be a fixture to mount something, like a sports net or perhaps a rope of floats to mark off the deep end. Maybe for a thermometer-on-a-rope. Did the previous owners leave you anything like any of those?
