After a year of first-time pool ownership, I'm doing really well on the water maintenance but I'm still learning how to take care of my equipment. I have this piece of equipment that looks to me like a filter (perhaps for the refill water?) but I'm not sure. More importantly, what sort of regular maintenance does it need, if any? It's pretty well strapped to the side of the pool. I haven't tracked down where the pipes go yet.

Thanks as always
Brad

Are you sure that’s pool equipment & not part of domestic water system???

I'm pretty sure it's part of the pool. It's attached to the pool and next to the equipment pad. I'm also pretty sure where the water main to the house runs and it's not very close to that location. But again, I can't be certain.

I suspect that the filter is for the autofill.

Maybe there's something about the water that requires a filter. Maybe it's well water and the filter is to remove iron or other metals.

You probably need to close the valve near the filter then depressurize the filter by triggering the autofill or opening a relief valve.

Check the manual for the filter for cleaning.

Thanks. It's not well water but I do live in a fairly rural area. I'll look for the manual.

Cheers

Shut the valve then press the little red button on top of the filter to relieve pressure in the housing.

The blue filter sump will unthread from the black top. Its probably going to be rather snug and will take a bit of effort to loosen it.

The filter element will drop out with the sump. discard the old filter and rinse out the sump. Check the condition of the o-ring on top of the sump and replace it if it is stretched or cut.

Put the new filter in the sump making sure it sits down on the guide at the bottom of the sump.

When you put the sump back on make sure the filter element lines up with the guide in the top. Hand tighten snug just to seat the o-ring.

Thanks very much for the detailed instructions. One more piece of equipment that I understand much better.
