Trying to hard plumb my intex 18x52 ultra, standard sand filter. I'm pretty confident in all the pieces I've picked up, but this one in the picture. What is it? Can I just get it al lowes? Do I have to cut out the black nipples to install this piece?

They are high temp unions and there are different ones, My type pump uses a 1.5 inch thread and 2 inch union like this
CMP 1.5 in. MIP x 2 in. PVC Hi-Temp Union 21063-160-000
some have a 2 inch thread and 2 inch union like this
CMP 2 in. MIP x 2 in. PVC Hi-Temp Union 21063-200-000
and others have 1.5 x 1.5
CMP 1.5 in. MIP x 1.5 in. PVC Hi-Temp Union 21063-150-000

the 1.5 inch to 2 inch can be used on skimmers, and through wall connections like I did :) when you screw them on make sure the go all the way to the rubber O-ring to make a good seal :)

Hope this helps :)

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Got a sec for another one? Am I going to have to cut the liner to use these or will the just plug into the hole already there?

you will have to cut the liner, the easiest way I have found is a soldering iron on high... mark your circle with a pen and cut/melt slowly... works great :)

here is my install post #93 New above ground oval 18x33 install

you will also need these

good luck and have fun :)
