What is the oxidize function on Ecco smarte?

So I bought a new house that had an Ecco smarte system already installed. The copper ionization system is kind of snake oil and after the previous owner never putting any real chlorine in so it took draining by half to get the copper levels in check, but what exactly does the titanium plate oxidizing function ACTUALLY do? Should I just pull it all out, or is the oxy setting worth using?

Welcome to TFP.

Pull it out. It has no value.

To any one that has removed these, the chamber doesn’t seem to be a standard pvc union. Does any one have a source for the unions that they use that aren’t inflated pool store prices?
I’m just wanting to make a pvc tube that fits in place of it, as I may convert to SWG in the future and this would possibly allow me to make it more plug and play when that day comes.

Most brands have a proprietary fitting, at different widths so you not only can't hook a pentair up to a hayward union, but it's too wide/narrow also. (Etc etc).

Pentair goes so far as to change the union per device, where the SWG union doesn't fit the heater. I had extra SWG caps and wanted to seal up the stored heater and they didn't fit, both being 2 inch.

Cut the unit out and glue a straight length of PVC into place. Don’t bother with unions. The Eco”Smart” unit is useless. Just remove it and permanently make the repair. PVC is easy to fix and if you pick the right glue the joint will be solid in under an hour.
