What do you think of this layout? Is this too much cement?

I feel like 10’ is minimum space you need if you want to have loungers. We do have seating around firepit, on deck and under deck, but I feel like we are still going to want some loungers at least at the shallow end side. The plan for the 10 ft of cement on the left between the patio and pool is for a table/chairs.

"Draw out" the size of your decking at the shallow end. Then put a towel the size of the loungers you are thinking of getting. That will give you real world seeing to help you visualize it and how it would work in your life. You will need walking around the loungers room as well.

I want to also talk around the rocks around the pool just on the other side of the decking. What kind of rocks? Do you have kids?

Yes have two kids, 7 and 10. We were thinking river rock… any recommendations?? We have arborvitae’s on the right. Planned to have bushes in the rocks (pots vs in ground?). It’s quite shady with some morning sun.

That’s great advice about the towels for lounge chairs.

Regarding the natural area, is that to scale? If so, it seems like it would be tough to maintain something so small without making a mess.

So not too much cement deck?

The “nature area” is just this wooded area that isn’t our property but cannot be built on (part of HOA). Its actually much larger, extending farther to top and right of photo (size a few acres).

Rocks+kids=thrownrocks..............just saying we know kids can and WILL throw rocks. Instead I would put more concrete instead of the rock area. That is going to be oh so hard to keep up and anything in it will end up in the pool.

This is 9ft with the coping and it works fine but another foot would have been better. I couldn't due to easement issues.

I did 10.5 feet on the shallow end and down the sides. Five feet deep end. We also did a 12x12 paver area for the fire pit. I was always nervous we were doing too much concrete. No I wish we had added a foot or two.
Cool. A friend had made the comment that he thought we were going to have too much cement around pool. But i think it will be about right. I don’t want a grass back there.

I’m now on team you can’t have enough decking. I searched this forum up and down, and have yet to see someone say they had too much decking. Just make sure the person pouring it knows what they are doing and your prep is done right.
