I have just completed a 13 inch in diameter hole that is 12 feet deep. I have a 13 inch in diameter section of pvc pipe to coerce into its new home, but I am wondering if I should drill some holes in it first. There is two feet of gravel on the bottom of this beautiful hole. Thanks for your help and expertise!

Pictures always help. I would love to see this beautiful hand dug 12' deep 13" Dia hole. That must be one skinny long shovel you have there.....

if it is clean stone down there then holes would help, I would only go 18" up the pipe with the holes. I would just be worried about dirt caving in on backfill and possibly working into the bottom of your sump. To be safe you could use some gorilla tape and tape a piece of good quality filter fabric around the pipe where the holes are and I would backfill the entire pipe with clean 3/4" stone.

If I went to that much work to get a sump pipe in I would have made the hole 24-30" then perforate the lower 10' of pipe. You should then be able to hang strips of filter fabric down the sides of the hole, place pipe in the middle of hole and backfill with clean 3/4 stone.

Agree with RichD. I always make hole twice the size of pipe. I use septic fabric the woven heavy stuff and wrap the hole as far up as I can. Perf the pipe with a drill to a foot below the top of fabric and backfill all with clean stone 3/4. Then zip tie fabric to the pipe add some more stone a few inches up then backfill. I also pipe the dis charge and electric underground too and put a skimmer lid on it or an end cap depending where it is
