Weird Weir...

Howdy!

So after jumping in the pool a few times when the pump is running (like for the water fall or side jets), my weir keeps popping out from underneath the tab at the top. So instead of it floating inward toward the skimmer basket it pops out and stay in front of the upper opening tab, thereby causing water to get drained from the skimmer basket (weir acts as a barrier) and causing vapor lock. I have to reset the weir behind the tab, turn off the system, and allow water to flow back into the pipe before I restart it. It touches maybe about a quarter inch (when floating) on the tab.

My theory is that large waves cause the weir to flex slightly so it bends beneath the upper tab getting stuck in front of it. And if I forgot to clean the basket out here comes all that nastiness right back out. Ew.

I was thinking of several solutions from a screw drilled into the top to extend its length (downside is it may eventually wear down the tab that I cannot easily replace or cause clicking noises by wearing the tab pad out), or add several layers of tape to the top of the weir, maybe extend the tab somehow?

I was hoping for someone who has had the same problem and had a good solution. Thanks!

Chris

I posted yesterday with the same issue (only in my case the tab broke off). If you glue anything to the tab I'd like to know what you used. I used Loctite plastic epoxy which is working so far, but hasn't been pounded by waves from swimming yet. Drilling is impossible for me unless I drain the pool enough to get a drill into the skimmer throat.

Floating weir. Very interesting. Thanks for all the responses. I'll look into it all.

I think if the tab broke off I would do the same and loctite it back or get an angle it (noon corrosive, of course) and put some padding on the inside.
