What solutions are there for wedding cake stairs that trap algae? I replaced my pool this year and when I pulled the stairs, I noticed a thick sludge inside the bottom of them. I struggled with algae last year and I feel like this was the culprit. I’ve read drilling more holes may help, but is there a recommendation on how many and where to place them? Or are there different wide stairs that I can buy that don’t have this issue? I have the king aqua stairs I’ve attached photos of.

If you zoom in on the picture above you can see all the extra holes i drilled in the bottom with a 2” or so hole saw - the whole back of my steps are open so I get decent flow there but I would suggest you add some there since yours is solid.
How are you weighing down the steps?
