Water splashing out of skimmer

Anyone know of a way to keep water from splashing out of the skimmer? Lots splashes out from where the lid seats to the skimmer as well through the vents in the lid itself. We were considering sealing the vents with caulk and possibly finding a large o-ring for the lid.

That sounds like you've got quite a bit of actuation going on in your skimmer. Does it happen when your pump is on both speeds? How many skimmers do you have?

that would be great if you could find an o-ring to fit. That should help.

But if you caulked the holes in the cover, then you couldn't get your fingers in there to lift the cover when you wanted to. Perhaps something less permanent? duct tape? a million and one uses.

Do you have the weir door installed? I’d the door is missing, it will make it worse.

Yep...Wier door is there. I bet i lose at least 5 gallons a day out of the top of the skimmer. Not a lot in the grand scheme of things but it adds up to a lot of water saturating the ground in 1 spot. Perhaps putting in a drain in that area my be the best route.

I had to put some 16”x16” pavers under the skimmer to stop the water from eroding the ground. Moisture wasn’t an issue for me, it was the splashing/ waterfall action that did the most damage.
I didn’t fix the root cause (splashing out the skimmer) , just prevented the after effect.

I once used plastic wrap and covered the top of the skimmer like I would a pan headed to the fridge as a test for a way to keep water, snow melt, etc from entering the skimmer. Worked fairly well so maybe it might work for the reverse?

I just put a piece of duct tape over the opening........... Then I installed a $.99 furniture handle over the duct tape so I can take the cover off. Love the handle

I have jammed a chunk of a pool noodle in that hole when the water level is high and lots of people are splashing.

Take some plastic wrap and cover the underside of the cover leaving the plastic wrap hanging over the edges. Put the cover back on. The wrap will stop the water from escaping or should.

Lower your water level some until it is centered in the opening.

I think this would be an easy quick fix. I would think even the painters tarp/ clear plastic would work also. I know on my skimmer it has a little play for the lid.
