Not sure if this is the correct location to post, so apologies if not.
After my Hayward 1HP Superpump died, I replaced it when opening last week with the Pentair Superflo VS 1.5HP. This pump has an internal cock/timer, whereas previously I relied on an external timer that would turn on power to both the pump and heater (older Raypak R366A) simultaneously. I haven't yet experimented with the new setup because the weather has kept me from getting the chemistry fixed and the bottom cleaned, so the heater remains off for the time being. The question is whether I can leave the heater switched on 24/7, and as long as there is no flow it will remain in standby, or is this not a good idea? If not, any other ideas?
Thanks

That is the intended use for a heater. Due to the heater flow switch it can only run when the pump is on. No need for a timer to control the heater. You will have to experiment to find the lowest pump speed that will engage the heater flow switch. Set your pump speed slightly above this to compensate for filter flow variations.

Per the manual found for your heater if there is no water flow the display would read:

Water Sw
Open

This is normal operation
