Vinyl Liner Replacement

Hello!

I have just joined TFP but have been reading TFP forum for years and am so grateful for it. It helped us learn to balance pool chemistry, to deal with algae, and to get rid of high ammonia, to name just a few things.

I was hoping to get your opinions on the following:

We are looking into replacing our 13 years old vinyl liner ( 18х36 rectangular pool, 3 ft shallow end, 8 ft deep end) and my husband already almost committed to the company which replaced the liner in our community pool and has been servicing our community pool forever. While the company owner made a great impression, I am a bit concerned by the following:

The company’s primary business seems to be servicing swimming pools. While they do some liner replacements it does not seem to be a big share of their work; they DO NOT install swimming pools either, and I somehow would be more comfortable contracting a company whose primary work is pool installations and pool renovations like liner replacements. They do not have too many internet reviews either.

My husband seems to have his mind set on this company as he had a good rapport with the owner; but I am still considering obtaining at least one more quote to at least make sure we are getting a fair deal. We did not receive any estimate yet but we’re quoted approximately 4800$ (not sure it includes refill) which is a rather pricey renovation for our budget.

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts. Thanks a lot!

?Welcome? to TFP!!!

There are a lot of pool service companies that don't build pools, but replace liners. I would hazard a guess that most liners are replaced by companies that don't build pools. Mine was replaced by one of these companies.

$4800 is not bad. Mine was replaced 2 years ago, $5500, 20x40. Price seems to be inline.

If the community pool liner replacement went well, and looks good, I would not be concerned.

Competing estimate is always a good choice.

Welcome to TFP.

Liner replacement does not require knowledge of how to dig holes in the ground or erect pool walls. It does require accurate measurements and ordering of the liner and then the tools to install it. If the company did a good job on the community pool then it shows they have some experience.
