Vermiculite vs sand, and padding..Install Price?

We are currently in the planning stages of an 18X34X48, oval Radiant pool, semi or fully in ground. The installer said he puts down a vermiculite base. Is this any better than sand? Should sand go over vermiculite or padding over vermiculite? The installer quoted $7000 for excavation (no dirt removal), plumbing, cementing around bottom of frame, vermiculite, and backfill? Electric is not included. About $1000 more for a deep end. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for any suggestions in advanced.

That is what I was told and is similar to what I was quoted for a Radiant as well. I got quotes from 5 different pool companies and felt the Radiant Pool was very nice but overpriced. For what I was quoted I could haved gotten an in-ground pool. The deep end will be nice and you should spend the $ to get it; however, if you are not going to have a deck or have the pool buried then it wont do you much good.
