Variable speed pump wiring

Hey Guys,

Just a general question about variable speed pump wiring. I have a standard 6 pin wiring on my controller. Positive ground and 4 speed contacts. When controlling these with a relay, are you meant to use a momentary switch or a maintained contact switch?

The pump is a reltech eco flow pro v3. It's an Australian company. I'm looking to use my sonoff pro 4ch and home assistant to adjust the pump speed. It uses the 5v active similar to pentair pumps. Just can't tell if constantly providing 5v to the relay will cause issues

I suspect it will be a constant input and not momentary.. That is how all the ones I know about work.
