vacuuming procedures

I have a brand new liner, and want to discuss routine vacuuming maintenance. I purchased a pool blaster and it did a great job at spot vacuuming highly visible but limited debris areas. Since, I have a rather large pool, 40X20, using the blaster on the entire pool would be cumbersome. Assuming clean water, and no algae buildup, is vacuuming the entire pool necessary beyond using the blaster to pick up the half dozen or so visible debris areas?

If necessary, how frequently, and what are your opinions regarding robotic cleaners? Leslie's has a Polaris model on sale this week-end. Thank you.

I keep my Polaris on a timer and run it for 3 hours a day. It keeps the bottom spotless. I get the manual vacuum out once a month and give it a once over.
Note: if you go the Polaris route you will have to purchase and install a booster pump to make it work. You might look into robotic cleaners as well. They cost more, but are ready to just plug in and start using them.

I am talking about the Polaris P825 which is an electric robotic vacuum. I used my pool blaster today for vacuuming about a half dozen specific areas of debris build-up. The blaster was great for that. However, I can't see using that for the entire pool, hence the potential need for a robot ? So my question is, apart from the specific spot vacuuming, will the entire pool require vacuuming in the absence of observable dirt/junk?

It is personal preference and probably varies pool by pool and time of year. I think there is always stuff on the bottom of the pool whether you see it or not. In Georgia we battled pollen. Here in Indiana I live in a new construction neighborhood and there is dust everywhere. I like my Polaris to run daily on a timer, but you may just need it once a week.

I also use a polaris cleaner. its an older 360 pressure side model that I rebuilt. No booster pump required. Its pretty much in the pool whenever we are not. Since its on the timer with the pump, it runs about 7 hours a day and does a pretty good job of keeping the bottom clean. My first year with the pool I tried vacuuming the entire pool and decided it was more work than I wanted to do which is why I keep the polaris in. Not sure if that's the best idea, but it works for me.
