Vac line

I understand I should use a skimmer plate when connecting a vacuum hose to the skimmer to prevent clogging up the skimmer line.

When using the vac line on the pool wall and vacuuming through that, is there any kind of device needed to avoid clogging up that line? I haven't found anything for that, but it seems that would be susceptible to the same clogging. Do I just get a male to male adaptor and directly connect the rigid end of the hose to the receptacle on the pool wall and start vacuuming?

When using the wall port, you can either suck it all to the pump basket or use a Leaf canister. There are many to choose from and its half a dozen or 6 whether you need to clean the skimmer basket / leaf canister or the pump basket, but I prefer cleaning the one by the pool where I'm already standing to vac.

I don't use a vacuum plate in my skimmer. The hose goes straight in. However if there are a lot of leaves or other debris, I do my best to scoop it out first.
