Using water softener for fill?

Southern, CA
I live in Southern CA.
Not much rain. Just lots of evaporation and adding.
I have a separate water meter for the pool and add about a pool's worth of water a year.
The tap water here is quite high in CH, up to 400ppm.
It's not hard to see why in five years, my CH was out of control bad.

I drained it and acid washed it this winter and started with "fresh" water.

MY QUESTION:

We have a water softener.
Has anyone used softened water for their pool fill?
It would certainly help keep my CH under control.

But....
I know it adds sodium to the water as part of the ion exchange process.
Will the growing sodium level disturb the water balance and cause any problems?

(Note: When I refilled, I used city water so CH is around 400ppm).

16,000 gallon, IG, SWG pool, cartridge filter, Pebbletec.

Home water softener will not be able to keep up for a full fill. There are many members that use softened water for top off purposes so the CH does not climb as quickly.
