Using the sand from old filter to new filter?

Old filter 55 lbs, new filter is 77 lbs, reading here, no need to change every 5 yrs? (old filter sand 2-3 yrs old)
So can I use some of the old sand and buy one bag of new sand, and if so, should I put new sand on bottom and older on top? Or just buy all new sand?

Ok, just read my answer, I will make sure sand is not clumpy.
