I am a first-timer. I just set up a 12' x 30" (~1500 gallon) Easy Set pool. I'm following the instructions in Guide for Seasonal/Temporary Pools - Trouble Free Pool. According to the Pool Math app, I added 8.9oz of CYA (in my case, PoolMate Stabilizer and Conditioner granules, 98% CYA + 2% inert ingredients). It is in a sock hanging in front of the return jet into the pool, and the pump is running. After about 10 hours, I squeezed the sock and it does not seem like much has dissolved.
My goal is to let my kids use the pool as soon as possible. Can I proceed to testing and adjusting pH and chlorine level before the CYA dissolves, or do I have to wait for it to be fully dissolved? I'm not worried about the cost of having to add more chlorine if the lack of dissolved CYA means the sun burns it off faster; it is a small pool, I'm assuming I won't need much chlorine in any case.
If I can open the pool before the CYA dissolves, what do I do with the sock full of undissolved CYA while the kids are in the pool? My guess would be to put it in a bucket next to the pool. How dangerous is it if the kids touch it? I've been wearing rubber dish gloves when working with it.
