Using "FreshWater" salt cell with 90ppm hardness?

My fill water is 90ppm hardness. I want to use my "FreshWater" salt cell, but don't want to pay for a vanishing act pillow. I was wondering if I could just soak my salt cell every week or two in vinegar to avoid problems and having the cell wear out early? As stated in the source thread, the current probably does not reverse to prevent scaling. Which even if I had hardness to 50 ppm, I would probably still want to soak in vinegar every so often.

I was reading this older thread: Cartridge for Watkins( HotSprings/Caldera ) Freshwater Salt System went bad after 5 weeks

But it suggested I start my own...

@JoyfulNoise suggested what I thought in this post...

Adding 50ppm borates to the tub will help act as a good pH buffer and keep the pH inside the chlorine cell lower. So, you might find that it helps with cartridge longevity.

Follow the suggestions in the thread you found.
