I have about 30 lbs of 3" tabs and recently installed a circupool RJ60 salt cell system. I can't think of a good reason to hold onto the 3" tabs and don't plan to start using the salt cell until after the tabs are used up. In the meantime, should I remove the cell from my plumbing and use the bypass pipe until I burn through the tabs?

The RJ series stops producing chlorine somewhere around 62 degrees. For me, that's only about 3 months out of the year. You could float some tablets during those winter months as opposed to adding liquid chlorine.

Sounds like you are using a tab tower correct? Is it before or after the SWG? Tabs are acidic so you certainly don't want that acidic water hitting the cell. If the tab feeder is last, the pump must always be on to keep the acidic water away unless you have a check valve between the two to prevent acidic backflow to the SWG.

Another option is to just put the tabs in a floater. Might be handy in the winter when water temps keep the SWG form producing FC and/or your CYA starts to fall. Or, as you noted, use a dummy cell.

What is your CYA ? If my pool math is dialed in right for your setup, they will raise you by about 60.
