upgrading equipment

Newbie here, so thanks in advance for your help and input.

I finally bit the bullet and got a Intex 16' x 48" which is just shy of 5100 gallons. Pool season is brief here in Northern Jersey but I still want to upgrade the equipment. Please let me know your thoughts and if this is reasonable or am I just making a rookie mistake. Here is what I plan on upgrading to:

1. Intex 3000gph pump and sand filter(26651EG). Instead of sand i'm thinking of using glass material.
2. I also want to start off with a SWG, so I was thinking of getting the Circupool Universal 25
3. The circupool T-16 Typhoon "Centrifugal pre-filter
4. Hayward skimmer (To be decided)
5. and maybe pvc piping it all

In the future I would like to add a heater to maybe make the season start a bit sooner and end later. Automation is something that wouldn't mind doing also but not a priority.

Your thoughts and input are much appreciated. Is this a good plan or should I go a different route?

Thanks again
Jose

Hola Jose... I'll make this short and sweet . And Welcome to TFP!

1. Ok, but use sand....been working well for a bazillion, cheaper, can be tweaked with a little top dressing of DE.
2. Great idea.... plenty of cell-power! There are others for pools your size but I like the one you chose best.
3. Skip the pre-filter. Not worth buyinng. Just toss a skimmer sock on your skimmer basket and it will do wonders to collect schmutz.
4. Good choice
5. Excellent idea.... suggestion: put plumbing and equipment behind pool so you're not staring at it from the house.

6- Heater. ok :)
7. A simple Intermatic timer may be all you need, automation will cost more than the pool.

Thanks Maddie for the warm welcome and tips.

I guess I'll be doing some more reading tonight!!! haha I just hope I don't get over my head with this.

The top dressing of DE, is that difficult to do? or better yet, is that something that needs to be done often?
The skimmer sock, won't the pump suck it in? Well it's a .75 hp so maybe it's not strong enough.
and yes, boss lady already provided specific location for the equipment to be out of site haha that was a prerequisite
Any timer you recommend? or anything generic will do?

I’m here to second the motion to just use sand in the filter!

Also, once you get the pool up and filled, and run your first tests, check your volume. I had same size pool and the volume was about 6000 gallons. You can use Pool Math app to help you estimate. If you set your pool up in the Pool Math app at the 5100 gallons and add enough liquid chlorine to get to 3 FC, then test in about 10-15 min, you’ll be able to see if your addition got you to your goal, or if you undershot.

Hey Ze and Welcome !!! I have another idea if you don’t mind taking a drive. You can have my pump and filter for a $100 forum donation and it will save you a good deal of funds now. You’d only need to buy the SWG and if the pump died in a few seasons, you’d only have to buy a pump. The filter should outlive us all.
