Ultimate 3000 Mesh Pool Cover Pool Closing Help Needed

Hi guys- need some advice. I bought this cover and plan to install it using tie down stakes in the ground vs screwing into my plastic support columns on above ground pool. It’s also known as Armor Kote Ultimate pool cover.

The cover has a mesh strip down the middle to allow water to drain into pool vs sit on top. I don’t mind cleaning one row of silt at bottom of pool in spring. So here’s my quandary. I’m in New England with snow and freezing temps. The cover is meant to be tight and not to use a pillow in middle because it’s self draining.

1. Do I use a pillow anyway because of freezing temps and expansion issues on wall?
2. How much do I drain the pool water? It says that rain will overflow via skimmer but last year I used a skimmer cover with a regular cover with pillow

Any advice would be appreciated?

My best results with holding a pool cover down on a round AGP in Cleveland OH was jugs filled with water and then fastened to the cover eyelets either with solid cord or bungee cords. If it gets a lot of snow load, bungees will stretch, and if solid cord is used, jugs will lift off ground. I was happier with the bungees.

I now have an IGP with a mesh cover and have to drain the pool (not cover) occasionally in the late Winter/Spring.
