Two ways of closing a pool for the winter??

Hi, here in the South West of France, I use a pool specialist to close down my clients pool for winter. Sometimes he choses to empty the pump, partially empty the sand filter, drop the water level and leave the ice protection things in the skimmers (widgets?). On other occasions he will just reduce the filtration time to around 3 hours overnight.

Both ways, he will put the winter cover on, but I am not sure how he treats the water for the two different ways.

Does anybody know what the reasons would be, to chose the different methods. The pools are within a 30km radius of each other, i.e. same weather conditions.....?

As Allen mentioned, I would ask the pool specialist. Also, you will need to provide us a little more information on both pools, and exactly what they do, including the configuration of both pools. There is not enough information here for us to provide you proper guidance.
