Two questions
1) Is my SWCG working?
My Jandy PLC1400 was giving a PDA error and was clogged with scale. It also shows some corrosion and erosion (see image). I knocked a lot of the corrosion off, and the error notice is now intermittent. I will clean with acid if recommended. Will a pool-outflow differential in chlorine tell me if my SWCG is working at all? Chlorine levels as below with much supplementation.

2) Where do I pour used test reagents?
When I was a kid we just chucked it back in the pool.

Chlorine
5 days ago - 0-0.5 (tf100)
4days ago -1.5 (TF100) after 2 gallons bleach; FC- 1.5
3 days ago - >10 after pool service powder boost and 3 tabs
1 days ago - 3.0 est. (K1000)
Today - 1.5 est. (K1000) --> 10.5 after pool service boost

Wowzers, That may require some diluted vinegar or acid if strong blasts of water don’t work.
See instructions below 👇
Keeping csi in check (slightly negative) should help with the scaling going forward.
You need some cya or your fc will be depleted as soon as its made. You likely have more than zero because of the tabs (each tab adds about 2.2ppm cya)
it’s just not a measurable number yet.
Get that to 30ppm via the sock method & fc to target 🎯 levels for assumed 30ppm
FC/CYA Levels with liquid chlorine.
Then tonight do an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to rule out any algae before increasing cya to more recommended levels (60/70) incase a
SLAM Process might be needed since your fc has fallen to zero recently.
I don’t know what powder boost is but it either adds cya (dichlor/trichlor) or calcium (cal hypo).
Your ch is about where you want it so don’t keep adding that if its cal hypo especially if you have higher ch fill water.
if you pass your oclt you can then do an overnight gain test to determine if the cell is functioning properly.
You can also try to catch a sample from the return to see if it’s higher fc than the rest of the pool water.
How does the water look? Cloudy/clear? Any Visible algae?

2) Where do I pour used test reagents?

I rinse the vials out in the laundry sink and call it done. I figure 10ml of phenol red in my 4,542,494ml (1200gal) septic tank probably isn't going to cause any major issues.
Thinking about it, probably cause even less issue in the 25000gal pool...but it just seems wrong... :)

Thx for your help. The water is clear now. Was a little green 5 days ago. modest/mod algae was visible on stone cracks of step but went away after I poured bleach over them 5 days ago. I will pick up stabilizer and try to figure out how much to add today.

Do an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to be sure its gone.
PoolMath will calculate amounts 👍🏻

I have since
cleaned swcg with vinegar
added
1 gallon liquid stabilizer -- CYA 0 --> 30
½ gal pool "chlorinator " 10% FC 1.5 ---> 5.0 2 days ago
yesterday (CC-0 ?? light yellow R003, swcg on 65%)
Today FC 3.0 (sunny)

No differential on spa return FC levels

Colorimetric tests in line with dpd. I am waiting overnight chlorine loss test for arrival of new kit, however.

17 volt dc present at each outer socket at SWCG power cable. Voltage --> 0 occasionally (I presume due to only 65% on)

?? Is the SWCG dead ??

Thx,
David - Dallas
