Trying to Get This Right

Been awhile since I’ve been here (got rid of our pool in some moves), but we decided to get a hot tub so I’m back with all the questions!
Tried to set it up once but got behind I think. Have a white chalky film on seats and sides. Getting ready to use Ahh-some to clean the tub and been reviewing on getting everything set up for chlorine. My first question is if it that big of a deal if I go ahead and use CYA and bleach instead of the dichlor talked about in the sticky? I was eager when we put in the order and ordered some before reading the sticky.

We are using well water so it’s a mess. Here are the initial test results and where we got from my TF-100 so you can give me tips and thoughts if you have any!
CH-20-I’ve gotten it to 70 but it’s taken a few days to do that.
pH-8.2-was working on lowering the TA and pH
TA-280-Had gotten it to 120
CYA-30
Any and all help is appreciated! This place was so awesome getting me going on our pool. Can’t wait to get this hot tub whipped into shape!

If you already have CYA then using it and bleach (chlorine) will be just fine. That is what I am doing at the moment. I am certainly no expert, but as long as you have your water balanced and have CYA in it to buffer the chlorine you should be fine.

Dichlor, from what I have read, is just the easier way at the start since it doses both CL and CYA at the same time so one less step is involved. You would have to switch to bleach anyways once your CYA levels hit your target (20-30 seems to be the recommendation for a spa so you are right on target).

Another advantage with dichlor for you would be help lowering your pH but if you are at your target CYA then liquid chlorine is best. With your TA so high you will need to constantly correct your pH with Muratic acid as you top off your spa with well water. Monitor your combined chlorine levels and open the cover during the day to reduce the levels if ppm get above 1.5 also if your spa is fiberglass no need to get your CH much higher.
