Since the CYA test is one of the more difficult tests for most people to interpret (including myself), I figured I'd order the R-7065 CYA 50ppm standard from tftestkits.net and give it a try. I actually found it to be pretty much what I would consider 50ppm based on how I've been testing CYA so I was happy to see that.

If anybody is having difficulty with the CYA test, order the 50ppm standard solution (R-7065) and verify your testing results.

You can order it here - R-7065 CYA Standard 50ppm

What type of lighting and environment have you found works best for you? Did you move around at all to see how the visualization of the dot changes with lighting?

Good questions Matt.

After trying multiple locations both inside and outside my house (including the standard back to the sun technique), what works best for me is to stand inside my house with my back to a west facing window on a bright sunny day. It's basically always sunny here so lighting is very consistent. I wouldn't do this test if it was cloudy. My flooring in that area is a light gray tile. I think the color of the floor/ground plays an important role in this test. But, I think the most important thing is consistency. I stand in the same place each time I do this test and the lighting is the same as well.

I've finally gotten comfortable enough with the CYA test that I no longer question my results. Using the R-7065 CYA standard 50ppm solution today just confirmed my testing methodology.
