Travertine Coping in the Northeast? Freeze worries

I have a fiberglass pool installed without a patio yet. We are waiting until April to let the pool and wallet settle. We were thinking of travertine as a coping and then pavers for the deck. Anyone in the Northeast or Midwest have travertine as their coping? We have been told it can be an issue with freezing and cracking during the winter. Love the idea of a cool soft stone for the coping that also comes lighter to contrast with a somewhat darker deck.

I'm not in your area but we have had a couple winters now with sub freezing temps, even around 0 for a couple weeks and haven't seen any issues with our travertine. Hope it helps

I'm located in Long Island, NY. I put down marble tiles this year, since your installing next year, I'll update in the spring if I have any issues. The marble and travertine are very similar.
