Just moved into our new home with a very old pool.

We have this very old inline filter Baker Hydro skimmer which uses a removable control plate placed where the skimmer basket normally sits to create a vacuum connection. When using the vacuum, should I be removing the inline filter and just running the debris into my pump basket?

I would think it's best to remove that skimmer inline filter. Reason being if it gets too clogged you can potentially lose water (prime) to the pump. But if water passes through to the pump basket, which is designed to catch large debris, then the finer stuff will go to your main filter as designed. You have a main filter right (sand, cartridge, DE)? I don't see it in your signature. You can still try if you want, but I'd keep an eye on the pump to ensure you don't lose prime.

I should have mentioned that too, sorry. This inline filter is the only filter we have. The system is very old, we just moved into the house and are looking to get a sand filter installed as well as have the pool replastered. I've updated my signature with pics.

No worries. Well, as I said above, you can try it installed and see what happens at the pump. Just don't let the inline get so dirty it results in the pump losing prime. Hopefully next season you'll have a main filter and this won't be a concern. Enjoy this great weather we're having! Great to be in SA this time of year.

Today and yesterday morning were beautiful! Felt like true fall weather!
