Topping off pool water with well water? :(

Hi everyone,
So far the first week with the pool has gone well thanks to this community! With lots of use with the dogs and myself I see that I need to add some water to the pool. I can't have it trucked in - too expensive ($300 a pop) so the only option I have - I think - is to top it off with our well water. I know our well is high in iron, is there something I can do to filter the water between the hose and the pool before it is added so I am not fighting yellow/brown water? Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much!

I don't think a filter is going to work simply because those filters reduce flow to a crawl in some cases. I think you need to look at iron removal methods after it is in the pool. There are several methods.

While they may reduce the flow slightly, the above filter is the exact one recommended by Swampwoman. I didn't know about the 1 micron filters when I filled my pool off my well and used 5 micron filters. They both help, and I have had no iron issues with my water in the year plus since I filled it.

thanks so much for the reply. The link and picture were helpful. We are hoping to get an adapter to connect to an inside faucet and run the hose out - then again through the whole house filter before it gets to the pool. Hopefully that will keep the iron at bay!

i opened my first pool earlier this summer with well water and had very high iron. it was nearly impossible to see the bottom. as was recommended to me here at TFP (and worked fantastically) add polyfill (pillow stuffing) to the skimmer basket and run the pump 24/7. replace the polyfill at least daily, you'll likely be impressed how much iron comes out. took mine about a week to clean up completely.

I'd link the thread but I'm still learning here. you can search "iced tea water" and you'll find it. there's also links in that thread to some homemade polyfill bucket filters to add extra filtration.

Best of luck!

Question - aside of the filter and the housing - are there any other fittings/adapters I need to make sure this works for a garden hose? It seems every time I turn around I need something else in order to get things to work. Thanks in advance!
