Too big / too small

Has anyone gone up in size at the last minute on a vinyl liner pool ? Is it even possible? We went swimming in an 18x32 this weekend and it got me thinking to go larger. 18 just didnt seem wide. Plus, my wife wants to swim laps. We are this deep into it, so may as well make a little more room. We have 2 young kids, so I expect the size will be appreciated for years to come.

We are waiting for construction to start on our in ground. We signed back in Feb for an 18x36 Gemini - it’s similar to a Mt Lake. - I am thinking about go me to a 20x40. We have the room in our yard. They are supposed to start construction in next few weeks, or who knows when.

Thoughts? Is it too late?

There should be not a huge price difference to increase from 36 to 40. If your pool was a oval or something with straight sides it would probably be no big deal to add 1 more wall section to add length. It might be a bit more complicated to do it with teh all curves shape.

With that said, this is your one and only time to get the pool right, you can never do it again. If you wan tot go larger, go larger. WOrse case it causes a delay in getting your pool, maybe you get bumped back a month. This is nothing in teh grand scheme. Ultimately get it right rather than get it fast.

FOr me, even if your builder wants to charge you a small change fee for this, so what, get it right.

For swimming laps I wouldn’t want less than 40’ length. Ours is 40’ long, and IMO, just barely long enough for swimming laps (we do so almost every day).

Can’t comment on time or cost to change, but I would vote for the 20 x 40 if you can. We have an 18 x 36 Gemini and wish we’d gotten 20 x 40, primarily bc the shallow end feels small. It’s not a huge regret and enjoy the pool tremendously, but we’ll go bigger if we ever do this again.

Deb04,

I’d love to see some pictures of your pool. The PB said it would likely add 7-8k because of bigger retaining wall, more concrete, more wall panels, more more more. I didn’t pursue after that. I’ll just be lucky to get something built this year....

I don’t have any pictures of the pool. I do have some pictures of people IN the pool. The little girl is my granddaughter and she’s featured in almost all pictures I’ve taken in the last 3.5 years.

Looks like she is quite the happy swimmer! Interesting pics of the pool We are doing the same type of underwater steps and the retaining wall. We were going
To do benches along the sides, but it made the shallow end pretty small. Here is our layout. I should have done 20x40 from start but PB said he wouldn’t go more than 18x36 so we believed him at that point.
