Tile Imperfections??

Oh wow - that looks really good! Thanks for sharing.

I don't think mine would have looked this clean though, since my pattern has offset rows of tile...so the partial tiles at the edges would have looked worse than a miter joint. In all of the pool finish magazines I've been flipping through, I don't see how to avoid the miter for offset tiles, however I think they could've been more mindful in switching out the lighter color, cut tiles with darker shades so it didn't look as noticeable.

I see what you mean by "offset" tiles.. You are right. You might be stuck with miter joint if you don't want the partial tiles along the edges, but that miter joint isn't too impressive. At least make the miter line straight... That infinite edge spill way is somewhat of the focal point of your pool. Demand your PB to make it right. Redo...

Well, now that's very interesting. It'd be great to have a closeup/overhead image of how your tile setter did that (hint, hint!). When I zoom in close to the inside corner of the intersection of your two walls, it looks like a tiny bit of misalignment (which would be inevitable based on the angles involved). It looks a bit like he might have used a layout like the one I illustrated above. Like one wall runs all the way through, and the other wall butts up to it. If that's what he did, then he must have "bent" the sheet of tiles across the 45° intersecting line. Maybe the OP's setter could still do that? Though I'm guessing your guy laid the whole thing out dry, fit and cut as needed, before he ever applied any mortar or grout. It might be too late for the OP for that, as he'd have to have his guy rip out enough tile to get everything aligned.

As has been pointed out, it is the offset and the variety of colors that is causing the trouble...

My tiler didn't cut the 1X1 tiles in 45 degree angle at all. I was quite surprised to see it, but it worked out well. Sorry, I don't have a close up picture.

Only thing is if you do this, grout lines from the top surface to one of the side of the walls will not match as you can see below. It bothered me like a 5 seconds, but I moved on. Glad I did, because you hardly notice those grout lines because my tiles give off so many variations of colors that they blur the grout lines. Also light reflection from water flowing over hide them as well.
