Hello and warmth to all

My water level is below the tile line as I await rains some day here in Miami. As a result, I obviously turned off the skimmer suction valve when running my pump. However, when the pump runs, sucking 100% through the main drain, I hear a constant "thump" or drumming noise from the skimmer hole.
Is that because there's an air leak in the plumbing somewhere? I had never heard it before in the same situation of low water.

Thanks

The skimmer suction valve may not be sealing completely.

That's what I assumed, and air is getting sucked every 2 seconds = thump every 2 seconds.
Here's the pad

Impossible to know the condition of the ball valves. We recommend diverter valves be used as they are maintainable.

You can ignore the thump and hope for rain soon or add water to the pool and see if the thump goes away with water in the skimmer even when the valve is closed.

Too difficult to replace them, but I like the 2nd paragraph

I filled up the skimmer area to 75% full this morning, and now I see it completely dry, therefore and "ergo" there is some suction going on.

That's what she said
