I need to replace my ancient pool pump and want to make sure I have the right equipment for my configuration. I am brand new to this but took a stab at figuring figuring out my pool specs.
Kidney shape 34L, 15.5W avg, 6D avg=22,134 gallons (?)
I have a Hayward 48 DE filter

what replacement pump should I get? Single speed. I can't afford VS

My recently deceased pump was a Hayward 2 hp.
What are the different model #s?
SP26xxx
Also, I am in constant battle with black algae. What is the best way to care for the water while I am waiting for a new pump? I appreciate the help

If you have no high flow needs (like spa or water features), then a small 1HP pump is plenty (like the Hayward Super Pump or the Pentair Superflo). I would highly recommend trying to upgrade to the 2-speed version which is not too terribly much more expensive as you can likely save yourself a good amount of $ on electricty by running on low speed mostly and only switching to high for vacuuming and backwash.

While waiting on the pump, add 1 bottle of bleach to the pool each day and brush the pool to mix in the chlorine.

How are you testing your pool?
How are you chlorinating your pool?

I'm not familiar with Hayward pumps, but if you can find the model number and look for replacement motors for that pump they normally give you a few to choose from. At least that is what I've seen in the past.

As for what to do with a dead pump you need to maintain your FC/CYA relationship to keep the algae away. [FC/CYA][/FC/CYA] If you have a robot toss that in the pool daily to mix up the water after you dose with chlorine. If not use a brush to mix up the water the best you can. I don't have any water features or anything like that, and I am all for saving some money. I just wonder why a 2 hp was installed with the pool. Does it matter the size of the filter, and did I figure my gallons correctly?

Because pool builders seem to always use pump larger than needed.

Is your pool really 6' average depth? What is the deepest?

Your filter is a little small if that pool volume is correct, but just means you have to clean more often. There is no issue as far as the smaller pump with the filter.

People who sell pumps rarely pay for the power it takes to run them.

If they did, they might be more conservative in how much hp they sell.

Realistically, if the system is done correctly, most pumping could be achieved with less than 300 watts.

The problem is so bad that many areas are beginning to outlaw single speed pumps at 1 hp or larger.

In places like California, the pump has to be less than 1 hp total or two speed or variable speed.
