I just bought The Pool Cleaner by Hayward and it is a very simple method of cleaning your pool. My problem is I don't know how to set my pump for this. Also which outlets to open. I want to vacuum to filter and then flush my filter because I have an algae bloom. I let it go too long after winter. I have the pool testing kit you recommend.

Yes, but it only tells me how to use the cleaner and nothing about the pump except to keep that receptacle on the pump clean.
How are you plugging the cleaner in to the pool? Are you connecting it to a dedicated vacuum port or are you connecting it to the skimmer?
To the skimmer. I assume you just use it at the pool pump's normal rpms. I know I can't open the waste line until I flush the filter. I don't know which of the other three lines to open. I want it to clean to filter.
And this skimmer normally functions fine without the vacuum attached? And the valve to this skimmer is on? And you get no suction at all from the cleaner?

Tackle the algae first. Your filter will be plugging too fast to run the cleaner.
