The gods of Hayward bite me again..

I found a 8 little ball bearings rolling around in the body of my Hayward Tigershark QC (1 year old) today. Not inside the filter but behind it in the filter cavity.

It seems to run ok but I fear the wheel bearings might in-fact have ball bearings in them, although it is not possible to tell from the manual.

Did the robot lose a bearing somehow?

Seeking out all knowledge.

The tracks that drive the rollers run on hard plastic bearings with small metal balls just like you have in your hand..

If your machine is not under warranty you can just buy a set of bearings...

Should be under warranty for another couple years. The trade off is warranty seems to take our locals places about 3 weeks. Vs $ and amazon or getting bearings here in a couple of days.

I will have to see how many and where these little guys need repair.

You probably live 5 miles from me... Does A-Quality do robot warranty repair for Hayward?

Before (if) you order replacements make sure that you know which bearing has lost its marbles. There are several different bearings, roller bearing (4x), guide roller bearing (1x) idler pulley bearing, and drive pulley bearing. They all use those same metal balls. I have replaced several of these in my Tiger Shark (now retired) but it was in the last two years of 12 seasons that I used it. Also be aware that there may be more of those metal ball bearing in your pool.

I see you have an Active 30i now... I assume all of these bots have ball bearings rollers, pulleys, and wheels?

A-Quality is where I buy my Liquid Chlorine in the winter.. Sorry, but I have no idea if they repair robots or not... I know they repair pressure and suction cleaners, but that is a far cry from repairing robots...

Both the drive bearing and the guide bearing and the drive bearing looked "failed" to me. The cage (bearing separator) was broken.

Reasonably easy repair but I question the need of the cover retention screws waaay up in the upper corners of the body. They're there only to thwart repair efforts it would seem!

They each have 9 balls, so one is still in the pool.

To be honest, I don't see how/where they are broken, they are just "apart" and can be reassembled fairly easily (minus one ball) and sort of put back into place. They just slip fit back into the body and are held together by the outside cover.

I had all four of the different bearings fail on me over the last couple of years that I was using my Tiger Shark. Although I tried several times, I was never able to successfully reassembly the bearings. Just ended up replacing the bearing assemblies. Yeah, those screws are what finally pushed my Tiger Shark into retirement. And also, I believe that we have the exact same granite countertop.

For any TigerShark DIY folks coming after me, the screws are a lot easier to deal with if you have a small battery screwdriver. A couple minutes and they're all in/out that way.

The cleaner probably needs to come with a battery screwdriver from the factory
