TF100 Newbie and Test Results

I honestly don't know???? It was like we skipped all the storms we have in April and just had rain, now we are getting storms with heavy rain and winds every day. If I wouldn't of put a pool in I guarantee we'd be having a drought....LOL

Just drained off another 2" off the pool to get me below the top of the skimmer.

Checked my FC and it's 5, was 9 this morning. I wish I could figure this stupid pool out as far as FC loss during the day but we are so up and down weather wise it's making it hard. I just don't know how I lost 4 ppm today when it was only sunny from 1 until 7, see my sig for pool sun time. Outside temp was in the mid 90's and water temp was 85 today.

Also, no one has been in the pool all day.

Question, knowing that I didn't lose any FC overnight I wonder if I could just add bleach in the mornings now instead of at night like I have been? Any thoughts about doing it that way or should I just stick to what I've been doing?

I like to add at night so that the chlorine can work really hard without the sun, but it's really up to your schedule.

If that kind of FC loss is consistent, you may need to bump your CYA from 40 to 50.

My loss seems to be running around the 3-4 mark daily for the last week. I was wondering about bumping up the CYA to 50 but wasn't sure. With all the rain we've had lately I could be loosing CYA from draining the excess water out of the pool.

If you EVER have a sunny day, check your CYA again.

We have sun this morning, woohoo!!!!! It's supposed to be sunny all day, no rain and in the 80's! Gonna be in the pool all day. :whoot::swim::shark:

Checked CYA out in the sun as per the instructions, back to sun, waste level.

FC 7
pH - 7.6
CC - 0
CYA - 30 (I'm going to bump it up to 50 tonight)

We spent all day out in the pool, was very nice!!

I'm starting to wonder if doing the tests outside is better than doing them inside with artificial light? I know the CYA test is more accurate for me outside and the FC I'm unsure about. Tested FC yesterday morning outside at it was 8ppm, had to do the FC test inside last night because it was dark out. FC was 4ppm (which is possible because of full sun and us using the pool all day). So based on FC of 4, I put in enough bleach last night to go from 4 to 8 ppm. When I checked FC this morning and did it outside it was right at 9ppm.

Now could that be related to inside / outside testing or could it be where I'm taking my sample from in the pool? Maybe the water on the other side of the ladder doesn't get circulated as well so the FC level is lower over there versus in front of the ladder?

Any thoughts?

Lighting is only crucial for CYA. I also find it helpful at times for pH if I am in-between colors.

I take my sample from the same place every time: Midway in the non-shallow end, about a foot down and a foot away from the wall. There is no return nearby.

Since FC is a colored-to-clear test, lighting doesn't matter.

I didn't think that lighting really made any difference on the FC but wanted to double check.

I've been taking my samples in the same location every time except I moved over by the return area this morning. Not sure if that really had / has anything to do with my FC number being higher or not. I didn't test from two different locations to see, maybe I'll do that tonight.

I know I'm not doing the FC test wrong but it still blows my mind that it was 9 this morning and now it's 4. I'm going to go error on the low side and say that it was probably 8 this morning and I'm loosing 4 per day. Got some more stabilizer after work and will put that in tonight to get my CYA up to 50.

I had to work on some of my fittings on the pump because I had two slow drips. What I did was take a latex glove, put a golf ball in it and stuck it down in the opening on the skimmer that goes to the pump. The golfball just fits in the opening and the latex glove creates a seal. Of course the pump has to be off and in the closed position. Zero water came out of the pump filter once I removed the lid to clean the pump filter. Fixed the two leaks and once I was done I just pulled on the glove and the ball and glove came right out. No fuss no muss and I wasn't soaking wet from water going everywhere...LOL

After upping my CYA last night it looks like I only lost 1 ppm of FC today.

Evening test results, I'll check CYA in the morning and hopefully it will be at 50 (that's what I'm shooting for).

FC = 7
CC = 0
pH = 7.6

Going to put some bleach in tonight to bring FC up to 8.

That's a really low FC loss. Nice!!! Don't get over-confident, though. Normal testing error (+/-0.5 woth the 10ml sample) might be playing a part.

Keep testing morning and night until you are feeling stable.

I hear ya, I'm gonna say it was probably more like 1.5 loss.

I thought I had a handle on it the week before last and then I started having the loss of 4 daily so I'm not gonna be over-confident.

Good for you! Once you get this down you will think, "wow, this is so easy!" and will be helping others in no time!

I read a lot of threads and would like to help but I don't think I'm far enough along in my TFP career to offer much help....LOL

Morning test results:

FC = 7
CC = 0
CYA = 50
pH = 7.6
TA = 100

Let's see how the FC holds after raising my CYA.

When I was cleaning the pool last night I noticed an almost tennis ball size indention in the bottom of the pool. It's about an inch deep or maybe a little less. Not sure how it got there as no one is allowed to jump in the pool. I did notice when I was pushing on it with my heel that it felt like a little sand moved.
