Ten year old pool liner, small bubble holes in the corners

My vinyl liner is getting a few bubble holes, smaller then a penny, but if left alone they get bigger. I've applied a small piece of matching black 'gorilla tape' and it seems to solve the problem.
I plan to replace the liner next year. I do install a mesh cover for the off season, so it shouldn't be getting too much sunlight those months of the year (Nov-April).

Question:
1 - Is there a better time to replace the liner, in the fall, in the spring when you open, in the middle of the season?
2 - Is there something I can do in the corners of my pool so there is 'less stress' on the vinyl liner? My corners are 90 degree angles, they aren't coved or curved
3 - I believe my vinyl liner is 20mil, if going to a new liner and getting something thicker would the liner last longer?

Thanks,
