Telescoping Pool Pole Came Apart

My son pulled our fairly new telescoping pool pole out too far and the inside pole came completely out. We have tried putting it back together but just can't push the inner pole back in. Any ideas, or do I need to buy a new one?

I’ve had mine come apart a number of times but never had any trouble putting it back together. Do you have the part that twists to tighten/loosen loosened?
