Teledyne laars series 2 - millivolt heater?

Have a teledyne laars series 2 natural gas heater that wont turn on. Trying to diagnose it and have a question.

it has a standing pilot, from what I gather this unit would be a millivolt heater then with the standing pilot? And if thats the case there is no external power source needed?

was trying to confirm power to it, but couldnt see anywhere a conduit or wire came in to the unit.

This is specific to asking if this model is a millivolt unit, versus asking about a power issue / and bonding of a pool that we came into ( although the power issue might not be relevant if I can confirm my heater is a millivolt unit ).

I believe that model came with either a millivolt or a piezo lighter. If you have no power to the unit then it is the millivolt version. The most likely failure is in the thermopile. You can get these on ebay and replace it yourself:

24 Thermopile Generator Zodiac Jandy Lite2 LD, LG - W0036901 | eBay

Get the instruction manual for the heater and test the voltages with a voltmeter to confirm this is the problem.

The power pile, milivolt generator should be putting out 750 milivolts to the gas valve. However, that voltage must first pas thru several proving and safety switches as well as the thermostat. If all of these are in good working order, the unit will fire. If any of these is not closing (making contact) properly the unit will not fire. There should be 3 screws on the gas valve labeled TH/TP, TP, TH. If you connect a jumper wire between the TH/TP and the TH screws and the unit fires, the problem is in one of the safety switches. If the unit still does not fire, the problem most likely is the Powerpile is not putting out enough voltage. It is also possible that the gas valve is bad as well. If the unit fires with the jumper wire in place, do not continue to run it this way as you have effectively taken out all of the safety devices built into the unit.
