Just picked up a 2oz bottle of r-0871 fas-dpd re-agent and a 10 gram bottle of dpd powder r-0870. Both sold by a third party seller but stocked/shipped by amazon. Only problem is, they both have a 6/24 expiration date, which is only 8 months away and not the 12 months Taylor advertises. Did I get ripped off or are these typical expiration dates for Taylor supplies?

Neither. Taylor has no control over how long its products sit on somebody else's shelves or in their warehouse.

Nate guarantees his supplies as fresh so it's not a concern at TFtestkits.net.

Since you purchased from Amazon you could return it.
Taylor sets the 12 month expiration date (some are longer) from their date of mfg. The Amazon supplier must have purchased a large inventory and trying to move it. If you need it over the next several months - not sure how much your pool is used during winter in northern CA - then continue to use and just purchase new next Spring.

With good storage (dry, dark and cool) the reagents will likely be OK for a bit longer, but there is of course no guarantee. The powder may clump up when exposed to too much humidity.

Expiration dates are tricky, indeed. So much depends on the storage conditions you have and on the storage length.

For simplicity's sake TFTestkits warrants ALL of their products for one year from the date you order it. Some folks have very good luck and continue to use the kit successfully beyond it's expiration date. It is of course out of warranty but continues to function so it may be smart to do so.

TFTestkits also is capable of closely monitoring their bulk chemistry so it gets processed down into the kit size containers and out the door perhaps faster than any other supplier.

That said, I would begin to lose confidence in the efficacy of the reagents after a while and simply order a complete new set from the refill sale during the early Spring Sale..............It's great for your peace of mind
