Hi. My ph was creeping up last summer and this year when I opened it was 8. TA 80(pool store said 77). After adding ph minus to bring down to 7.7 I was shocked that TA went to 90. Fully expected it to go down. Tested twice. Could this be right?

That is within the error of your test.
Residuals from testing in the vial can also change test result. Clean your vial with rubbing alcohol and dry every so often.
Use muriatic acid to lower pH. pH minus has sulfates, and they can damage concrete and metals.

Thanks! There does seem to be some residual in the tester, I will clean it. I chose the ph minus because I thought it wouldn’t lower the TA as drastically as muriatic would. I have a vinyl pool and plastic ladder. Should I be worried to use in the future? I bought a 6lb bag

I would not use it.

To here is the deal on pH and TA. When TA is 60-80, your pH should be fairly stable between 7.8 and 8.0. When it is 7.8-8.0 leave it alone. When it starts to look like it is higher than 8, then only lower to 7.8...your TA should be fine.

How much did you add?

Can you show the product?
Sorry just saw this. I added 4oz then 2oz several hours late of the Pool Life brand of PH minus which is 92 percent sodium bisulfate. Ph was 7.8 yesterday. Haven’t checked TA since the day I posted, but after cleaning the test tube it was 80 so I guess im good. We are getting a big storm tomorrow so I’ll check it all again afterward
